Do i need to remove existing sod before covering with landscaping gravel?

Question by jumbo lopez: Do i need to remove existing sod before covering with landscaping gravel?
I was replacing the grass in my landscaping with some decorative gravel. Before laying down weed control fabric, do i need to remove the current grass/weeds? Or can i just spray it with weed killer and cover with fabric + gravel?

It depends on how deep you want the gravel. You can remove the sod and rake the soil smooth, put down the fabric and then put just enough gravel to cover the fabric.
OR you can leave the sod, put the fabric over the sod, and then put lots of gravel on the fabric so it can be raked level.

By the way, you do know that the fabric will only stop the weeds beneath it. Seeds that blow onto the gravel will send down roots on top of the fabric and grow.
